A visit to the West Coast Modern Tree House was an invitation into a rare architectural condition — one where structure, landscape, and atmosphere exist in quiet equilibrium. Elevated lightly among the trees, the house dissolves conventional boundaries between interior and forest. Cedar, glass, and exposed framing create a continuous dialogue with canopy, shadow, and shifting light.

The building is defined by restraint. Circulation unfolds gently, guided by structural rhythm rather than excess intervention. Windows are not panoramic gestures but calibrated apertures — framing branches at eye level, sky at dusk, filtered light in the morning. The architecture feels less constructed than composed, its proportions tuned to the verticality of the surrounding trees.

Within this setting, one becomes acutely aware of time: the movement of wind through leaves, the soft modulation of daylight across timber surfaces, the acoustics of a house held above ground. The Tree House stands as a testament to West Coast Modernism’s enduring ethic — material honesty, tectonic clarity, and a profound respect for place.

It remains a study in how architecture can inhabit landscape with discipline and humility, allowing environment and structure to exist as one continuous experience.

The philosophy of the house, echoing parts of Common Dwells’ core principles of the circadian home and way of living, are further reflected in the collectable version of the Compañero Bench, made in collaboration with Pablo Mariano.
