“And when at eve I rise from tea,
Day dawns beyond the Atlantic Sea;
And all the children in the west
Are getting up and getting dressed.”

— Robert Louis Stevenson

the circadian home

The Circadian Home is our core concept.
It is an idea manifested in form, designed to support human nature.

Centred around a universal understanding of well-being, the Circadian Home honours the rhythm of the movement of the Sun around the Earth. In other words, the home is arranged in such a way that the activities taking place within it, throughout the course of a day, align with how light travels through the space. What is profound about this idea is the effects this has on our inherent, biological rhythm.

“It’s surely our responsibility to do everything within our power
to create a planet that provides a home not just for us,
but for all life on Earth.

— Sir David Attenborough

Offering a sanctuary for the everyday, a home that cares for the personal well-being, The Circadian Home also promotes a sustainable approach to construction and manufacturing. Adaptable in both size, layout and materiality, the home is a model to adapt in a way that makes sense for its context and users.

The concept of the Circadian Home is more a suggestion than a rule and should inspire rather than restrict. The Circadian Home is a humble and simple, yet radical, approach to residential architecture. Supporting human and ecological well-being, the model of the house is guided by the universal laws that enable life on this planet, elevating the sometimes forgotten and mundane but vitally important.
